Program Description

Our Learn to Skate Program is intended for beginner skaters and children with no previous skating experience are welcome in this program.

This beginner program provides young children with an orientation to the ice surface and an introduction to the basics of skating and hockey.

Parents / Guardians are welcome to accompany their child on the ice for the first few weeks of the program. However, parents and guardians are not required to accompany their child. The choice is yours.

History of the Program

George Hamilton and John VanVaals have been teaching the Learn to Skate program since the early 1990's. The program was originally called the Jr. Nomads, affiliated with the Nomads Oldtimers Club.

Shortly thereafter, McDonalds Restaurant in Trenton became the title program sponsor and the name was officially changed to Jr. Macs to recognize their generosity.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are the classes held? Classes are held every Saturday morning from September to March. The 2009/2010 program begins Saturday, September 26th. Upon registration you will be given your child's skating time which will either be from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. or from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Where is the arena? Classes are held at the Duncan Memorial Arena in Trenton, Ontario on Rink # 1

Is my child eligible? The program is open to all residents of Quinte West ages 3+

What equipment does my child need? All skaters must wear full hockey equipment including a CSA approved ice hockey helmet. Skate guards are required in the lobby area.

How much does the program cost? Registration fee is $150.00 per season (Oct thru March)

What is the refund policy? Refunds are subject to a $50.00 adminstration fee. All withdrawls must be submitted in writing. Refunds will be pro-rated upon approval at the discretion of the Quinte West Minor Hockey Executive.
